1,459 kilometres. 12 journalists. 6 Audi A4.
The Autonomy Challenge.
For this drive to Spain, the drivers had to cover 1,260 km on one tank of fuel - and cope with city traffic, congestion and mountain passes into the bargain. In other words, this was a world away from the theoretical conditions of a lab test. The results exceeded all expectations: the six A4 models reached Madrid with between seven and ten litres left in their tanks. The winning vehicle actually averaged just 4.45 l/100 km. If applied to the entire contents of the 65-litre tank, that equates to a range of 1,459 km with CO2 emissions of 118 g/km. The other vehicles, too, recorded consumption of only 4.49 to 4.72 l/100 km. That is a range of 1,377 to 1,446 km and CO2 emissions of between 119 and 125 g/km.
