By displaying a recommendation to change gear, the driver learns how to adopt an economical driving style. An algorithm compares the available engine torque in the selected gear with the actual operating point. If it establishes that the next gear up would be more efficient, it recommends shifting up. A fuel saving of up to 25% can be realised in urban traffic, where frequent gear changes are needed.
